Visual Studio.NET Tips and Tricks

Hi all,

In this article I am going to discuss some cool Tips and Tricks, which can be performed with Visual Studio.NET ®.

OK Let’s kick off!!

(1) VS.NET has a Nifty Full Screen mode, which can be invoked by pressing the Key combination of Alt + Shift + Enter. To get back the original mode press Alt + Shift + Enter again.

(2) One of the finest features in the VS.NET editor is the Incremental Search and Reverse Incremental Search. To perform Incremental Search Press Ctrl + I and you can see the mouse cursor changed to a binocular with an arrow pointing downwards. Just start typing the text that you want to search. Say you’ve got the string messagebox in your code. Press Ctrl + I and start typing message you will see the first instance of message is blocked. To jump to the next instance of message press Ctrl + I again. Similarly you can do Reverse Incremental Search. If you are in the bottom of the code editor Press Ctrl + Shift + I and start searching from the bottom. These tools are very handy when jumping between functions in long code.

(3) Do you know we can do arbitrary rectangular block selection in VS.NET? Indeed we can select it. Hold down the Alt key when selecting it.

(4) Whenever you do a Cut or Copy operation in the VS.NET editor the items are saved in a place called Clipboard Ring, which saves up to 20 different items. Press Ctrl + Shift + V repeatedly to paste the items. Clipboard Ring will be in the Control Toolbox. You can also drag the items in the ring to the editor directly.

(5) Press Ctrl + - (Hyphen) to go to the Previously worked places in VS.NET. It could be anywhere between the Code and Forms. Similarly Ctrl + Shift + - to go forward between items in VS.NET

Hope it is useful !!
