Care to elaborate on that? What kind of clip? quicktime? wmv? wma? mpg? a simple way to do any sort of multimedia manipulation is to use graph edit and a few of the provided filters. Either do it from within graph edit or just save the graph and make a stand alone app with visual studio.

doing the "save target as" will not work if it is a real streaming file. What you end up saving will be a URL of some sort. A streaming program would use this URL to connect to a server that then sends the content as it is needed. You need an application that will write whatever is sent by the server to a file. Microsoft, which is into the whole DRM scene) does not support this in media player AFAIK. so the options are to get a program that does or to make your own (which as I posted above is really easy with graphedit).

you mean from a media server?? there's a program called 'streambox' allows you to do that.
basically, you have to find out the source of the target (right click, property) then cut and paste the location to streambox, where it'll d/l it...

Yes, I think you would need to be more specific. However, I think I once used a program called "Total Recorder" that was able to record streams. I know it worked for sound, but I don't recall if it worked for video as well.

you can save video streams with a video capture program. That is the one way which will work for all formats and securities.
One program I found that'll do this is: SnagIt http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/

Yeah..I'd look into streambox, and this program called "URL snooper" if you can't find the actual address of the streaming file.

Also in the old days for example if you had a sound .rm link you could simply look for a file with the same name but with a .ra extension. It worked if the song was on the server. Example: http://some.server.net/audio/song.rm to http://some.server.net/audio/song.ra
I have personally downloaded a couple of files like that.

Streambox does that if you know the URL of the Stream. If you don't have the URL, try URL Snooper. But I am not sure whether it is allowed and hence I don't use it.

No it's not legal and be careful because it "phones home" every time you queue a file.
You can sometimes find the file name but loading the .ram file into a text editor. Nowadays it's harder to download the files, but every once in a while you get lucky.

yeah . . . hack the website and find the main file. I think your best bet is to try and search for the clip name elsewhere

To download streaming clip (RealVideo & RealAudio rm ra ram, Windows Media asf asx wmv wmx wma) you may use the following software: HiDownload, StreamDown, NetTransport, WM Recorder and many other programs. These are not screen capturing programs. They allow you to download streaming media whether audio or video, which you usually play using Windows Media Player, RealPlayer or RealOne Player.
But unlike these players some stream recorders allow you to use multiple threads.
There is no program capable of downloading all streaming media clips, so please try several ones before asking a questions.
See also for more streaming media clip downloading software. FAQ on this site may help to solve the majority of problems occured while capturing streaming media.
