aren't some of the 3rd party controllers smaller? they are definately cheaper, but I dunno if they are of the same quality as the MS ones.

size mattered to them for some reason...maybe because on average...they're smaller people...i forget who said it exactly, but i heard they were going to allow xboxes to be sold in japan without a smaller controller...which is lame, cuz the xbox controller is just awesome the way it is! ;)

and as for 3rd party controllers...don't buy them...i had a friend that bought one...played halo with it for almost 24 hours straight through...and then it broke...what a piece of crap! i've been using the MS controller for tons and tons of hours now and it shows no sign of wear or anything

had a 3rd party controller and was playing halo...

every now and then if I don't turn off the rumble option I get a "controller disconnected" message on my screen. It's very obnoxious.

I had also read some where, that due to the average size of American hands they designed the controler bigger. It's not that big, it just gets some getting used to.

They look much less comfortable than they are. After hours of gameplay, the controllers still feel quite good.

The xbox controller wasn't based on the average size of american hands, it was based on the average size of an AMERICAN. That's why if you glue feet to it and put a hat on it, you can hang out with it, it doubles as a My Buddy doll (remember those? Remember how they went out of business after Child's Play came out? >:)

After trying out all 3 major consoles in the stores, I found that the Xbox controller was the most annoying from an ergonomics perspective. If it was indeed designed based on an average american hand, then their population sample must've been skewed with behemoth-sized test subjects. I found the gamecube controller to be the most comfortable and intuitively designed one of the bunch. Maybe someone will eventually make an adapter to allow the cube controller to be used on the xbox.

Personally, I like the Sidewinder's better than the big and chunky XBOX cntrls

Yes, I have to agree that the xBox controllers are just clunky compared to MS's Sidewinder series. It's like throwing away your Logitech for an iPuck mouse.

I think they were targeting older people, who generally have larger hands. Younger people would get more out of a Gamecube, while the X-Box targets older generations.

I tried the X-Box controller at Wal Mart, and it seemed too big for me.

I think the Xbox is okay, it needs some work with its size, its very large in comparision to other counsols, but it is the first MS counsol so Im figuring the next time the size will go down. I like that counsols are all coming around, but some companies have stopped making computer games to focus on the counsols only, and I think that sucks
